Owen & Victoria Phillips-Walmsley are London-based artists, exploring the concept of truth through playful texts and graphic symbolism. Building on their backgrounds in typography and sign-writing, they use gold leaf and traditional craftsmanship to create juxtapositions between the values associated with this luxury material, and everyday signs and messages.
In the past ten years, Owen & Victoria have frequently been commissioned to design and install various large-scale public artworks and hand-painted typographic murals by the likes of the Southbank Centre, Arts Council England and the Heritage Lottery Fund, working across the UK and USA. Their newest body of work, focusing on gold leaf, is the result of developing their fine art practise and building on previous technical knowledge.
